Core & Elective Courses
The courses are divided into:
Core Courses
Core courses of a programme are courses, which a department has specified as essential and fundamental to technological practice in a programme of study. A student is required to offer these courses in order to be considered successful for the award of the National Diploma.
Elective Courses
Elective courses are those specified by the department from which a student is required to choose in order to make up the additional minimum limits required for the award of the National Diploma.
General Studies (GNS) Courses
General studies courses are compulsory for all categories of students offering ND programmes. The percentage range of 10 - 15% is required to satisfy the requirements for certification.
Communication Skills
A large proportion of students just graduating from secondary schools experience great difficulty in writing and expressing themselvesin English Language. Under the General Studies courses, USE OF ENGLISH is expected to take care of the written aspect of the language. However, in order to improve the proficiency of students and improve their communication skills. Interlink Polytechnic has introduced ORAL ENGLISH as a compulsory subject for all students.
Numbering of Courses
Courses offered during the first semester of instruction of the ND programme are numbered 100 level series, while those of the last semester of instruction are numbered 200 level series. Every course is designated by a code number made up of two or three letters denoting the department which offers the course.
The scores obtainable in any course shall normally include the following:
Continuous Assessment which consists of home work, class work, practical sessions etc and shall attract 15% of the total marks.
The Mid-Semester Examination makes up 15% of total marks.
End of Semester Examination attracts 70% of total marks.
A student must obtain 40% or above in a course to secure a credit pass. Any score below 40% is a failure grade.
